1st Year-Arabic Program for Beginners
Duration of Beginners Level: 10 weeks
Asalaamu alaykum! Welcome to the Arabic Language Program for beginner’s students. The first three classes focus on reading and writing. The fourth class is a basic overview of Nahu and Sarf that prepares the student for further Arabic studies.
In the Quranic Literacy series students will first learn the fundamentals of reading and writing the Arabic language. The student will then learn how to recite the Qur’an by studying then applying the basic rules of Tajweed.
Quranic Literacy 1A Reading & Writing
The first in a three series course on Quranic literacy. This course will focus on reading and writing with an emphasis on reading.
Quranic Literacy 1B Introduction to Tajweed
In this course you will learn the rules basic of Quranic recitation. Students will also continue to develop their calligraphy skills.
prerequisite: Quranic Literacy 1A or basic reading fluency
Quranic Literacy 1C Tajweed lab Juz Amma
The Tajweed lab will focus on applying the rules learned in 1B through a reading of the last 30th of the Qur’an called Juz Amma. Calligraphy skills developed in QL 1A and QL 1B will be solidified by writing selected Suras form Juz Amma.
prerequisite: Quranic Literacy 1B or basic reading fluency with Tajweed
Arabic through the Qur’an
Arabic through the Qur’an brings together a practical study of the Arabic language as well as Quranic studies.
A simple introduction to the most common grammar rules in Arabic. Application of the rules will be through mostly Quranic Vocabulary culminating in an in-depth study of Sura al Fatiha.

Shaykh Murabit Benavidez was born and raised in the Bay Area, California. He embraced Islam in 1998. Shortly after his conversion, he traveled to Syria to begin his journey to seek Sacred Knowledge. Shaykh Murabit studied Arabic, Shafi’i Fiqh, Aqida, and Tajweed with local Syrian scholars in private halaqat (circles of learning). After spending two years in Syria, Shaykh Murabit traveled to Mauritania to continue his Sacred Knowledge studies. His studies focused on advanced texts in Arabic, Maliki Fiqh, Aqida, and Tazkiya. Some of the eminent Mauritanian scholars under which Shaykh Murabit studied include Shaykh Murabit al-Hajj, Shaykh Murabit Hadamin ould AbdurRahman, Abdullah ould Ahmad Fal, and Murabit Ahmad Fal ould Ahmadna. Shaykh Murabit returned to the Bay Area, California from Mauritania in 2005, where he continued his studies in Fiqh, Arabic, and Quranic Studies with Shaykh Salek bin Siddina and the late Shaykh AbdurRahman Tahir (رحمه الله). Currently, Shaykh Murabit is studying an advanced Maliki Fiqh text with Shaykh Sidi ould Abdullah and Quranic Sciences.
While living in the Bay Area, Shaykh Murabit taught adults and children Arabic, Aqida, and Fiqh, gave khutbas, and provided lectures within the community, both publicly and privately. He has taught at distinguished institutions in the Bay Area, including the Zaytuna College Arabic Intensive, Taleef Collective, and Darul Qasim (Bay Area Division). Shaykh Murabit also taught children Islamic studies, Arabic, and Quran at Northstar School, Ilm Tree Homeschooling Co-op, and privately.
In 2017, Shaykh Murabit founded Quran Connected, a Quran-based approach to Arabic and Sira, focusing on developing love for the Quran and the Prophet (saw). In addition to Arabic and Quran, Shaykh Murabit teaches Fiqh and Tazkiya in New York City and Northern New Jersey.
